Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski is Proclaimed Honorary United States Citizen.
On November 6, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Public Law 111-94 making Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski an honorary U.S. citizen. General Pulaski is the first Pole and the seventh person in history to be awarded honorary U.S. citizenship posthumously.
General Pulaski is a Revolutionary War Hero. He is best known as “the Father of the American Cavalry”. In October 1779, General Pulaski led an assault against the British and saved the vital port of Savannah, Georgia.
In 1929, the United States Congress declared October 11 as Pulaski Day. This holiday is celebrated throughout the country in Chicago and especially New York City with the “Pulaski Day Parade”.
